Zac and the Giant Spider

Once there was a boy named Zachary. He decided to bike to a park that was very near. It was called Douglass Park and he really, really liked it because it had a big hill. He decided to try to climb all the way to the top of the hill that day. He started to climb, and he climbed and climbed and climbed, then he saw a little hole in the ground. He looked in it and it was just black. He dropped a stone into it to see how long it took for it to hit bottom, but he couldn’t hear anything. He dropped another stone in but still he couldn’t hear the thud when it hit bottom. He thought for a minute, and said “it must be that it’s too far away for me to hear the thud.” And so he decided to throw one in, so it would make a louder sound when it hit bottom. But this time he heard a loud growl! He started to run and run and run, away from the place. But the ground started to shake, and he fell over from all the vibrations. He got up again and started to run, but just slipped again. He didn’t even want to know what kind of thing was making the shaking. He kept running and running, and then he found he could see the park way down there. He saw the little path went down to the park. So, he followed it and finally found a hole in a fence and ducked through it, because that’s where the path went. He came out at the park, and started to run through the gate. Then he heard the roar he’d heard when he threw the stone in. Somehow that roar made it so he had to look back. He did, and he saw a humongous spider with yellow eyes and eight hairy yellow legs and pincers the size of cars! And it ran at him, and he just managed to pick up a big stick, and threw it at the giant spider. It stopped for a second, which gave him time to run a few feet but then it started again. He picked up another big stick, but he didn’t throw it yet. When the pincers started coming at him, he shoved it in between the pincers so the pincers couldn’t move, then he ran and ran and ran. But he couldn’t really see where he was going, he was running so fast. He ran into a metal stake in the ground, and he fell over and so did the stake. He saw it was a little pointy on the end that was in the ground. So, he held it like a spear and ran at the spider, but the stake hit the stick he’d put in its pincers, and fell out. The spider could move his pincers again. So, he hit the spider as hard as he could on his back, but the spider didn’t even seem to notice. It raised one leg to strike him down! But before it could do that he ran under the leg so he was under the spider’s belly. He buried the stake deep into its belly. The spider let out a roar even louder this time. All of its legs curled up under it and it rolled on its back. Its eyes were closed and it’s pincers motionless. He looked at the spider and then everybody began to cheer behind him. All of them carried him on their shoulders and brought him to his bike. And he biked home with reporters running after him.
